How to Include Friends and Family in your Elopement

Just because you decided to go it alone on the big day doesn’t mean you have to exclude your nearest and dearest! Here are just a few ways you can still include your loved ones on your wedding day;

Online

Schedule a video call for a pre- or post-elopement drink (or breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or even a midnight snack if your loved ones are scattered across the globe!). Your loved ones can still wish you well before you go off to tie the knot or you can call them afterwards to show off your new bling and pop some champagne together.

There are so many easy ways to connect with people around the world now; especially since the Coronavirus lockdowns prompted tech companies into an all-out war to make the best video-calling services. You’ll likely already have a favourite, but if not, we are happy to help!

In Person

Your elopement can be just the two of you, or you can include a couple of extra special people to join you if you like. Can’t elope without your mum or your best mate of 20 years, we get it. We wouldn’t suggest more than 8-10 people but it’s really up to you. Anything more than 20 guests we’d describe as an intimate wedding. It’s likely you might need 2 witnesses for a legal ceremony so maybe you have some favourite hiking buddies who can carry your gear for you too if a mountain is your jam, that would be handy.

We’ve also found it increasingly popular to have a small group join the trip and enjoy a breakfast together before hanging back at the hotel/campsite to let the couples have their intimate ceremony adventure just how they imagined. Afterwards, having drinks and food in a relaxed environment is a lovely thing to look forward to.

In Spirit

Part of the allure of an elopement is the avoidance of long, boring, drunk wedding speeches. We totally get it! That doesn’t mean your best people and family can’t provide some words from a distance. Ask them to write something and seal it in an envelope, then you can open them and read them once you’ve tied the knot. This is a great way of doing it and leaves you with something really special to keep as a memory.

Think Outside the Box!

I’m just putting it out there, but if you wanted something a little bit… extra… why not elope to a landing area and have a friend skydive in to deliver the rings or handfasting ribbons! Strap on a few Go Pros and you have a pretty unique video of your day.

Are you a member of a marching band, or friends with people who are in one? Why not hire them to march past your ceremony! You don’t even need to tell them what the event is for, then it can be a surprise for your friends too! This would work equally well with a mariachi band, an acoustic reggae outfit or one of those one-man-band street performers.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to eloping you can really put your own stamp on the day, whether its just the two of you or with your special few.
